Kozy Kandles Maker Profile

Emily Gray, creator and founder of Kozy Kandles, is “wicking” away harmful chemicals one soy candle at a time. Based out of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Emily has been creating beautifully-scented soy candles by hand for the past three years.

Because soy candles are made from soybeans, they are eco-friendly and sustainable. “I actually use pure soy wax and cotton wicks, and the fragrance oil I use is phthalate-free, so no toxins and no chemicals,” Emily explains. “They burn very cleanly, they last longer than paraben-based candles, and they burn very evenly all the way down.”

Emily’s passion for sustainability aligns perfectly with our mission at The New Blak, which is one of the reasons we’re so excited to feature her products in our shop! In addition to the candles Emily has created especially for our Unstoppable and Powerful collections, we also offer several of Emily’s signature scents like “Clarity” and “Sweet Hippie.”

Emily recently graduated from college, but it was her first college endeavor that inspired her to start her own candle business. “My first time in college, I went away, and something about candles really reminded me of home,” Emily says. “They made me feel cozy. I was in this little dorm room, so certain smells made me feel comforted when I was away from home.”

Inspired by that sense of comfort, Emily decided to create Kozy Kandles to share that feeling with others. “The most inspiring thing that has helped me along the way is creating that nostalgic feel for everyone; that relaxing feel, that cozy feel,” Emily says.
