A selection of social media posts I created and designed for Sylvan Learning Center of Louisville. For more, please visit Sylvan Fern Creek on Twitter.

Newsjacking:

Taking a popular news event that has gained a significant amount of attention is a great way to craft an interesting post with which followers are more likely to interact. This particular post plays on the recent college admissions scandal that took over the news when several celebrities and prominent figures were implicated, including actress Lori Loughlin whom many referred to as "Aunt Becky."

Eye-catching graphics:

Tweets with images are 34% more likely to receive a retweet than tweets with no images. Therefore, it is extremely important to create tweets with intriguing, quality graphics in order to best engage our followers. I created the image in this tweet using Sylvan Learning Center's colors (purple and green).

Appeal to everyone:

It's always important to remember your audience. Our posts are most often aimed at parents who have children struggling in school, but we also want to show our support for other key demographics. This post was created as an appeal to the homeschooling community to make them aware of the opportunities we have for them as well.

Interact with followers:

The main purpose of this post was to note an educational holiday (National Poetry Day), but I also used it as an opportunity to interact with our followers. Rather than just sharing one of our favorite poems, I also added on a request for our followers to share their favorite poems with us. This is a good way to bond with current clients, but it's also a refreshing break from tweets that are trying to sell the Sylvan programs.

Bring the business to them:

By showing our followers and potential clients what it's like inside the Center, I'm giving them a glance at what they would be purchasing if they were to use our services. This post features a whiteboard from one of our poplar coding workshops, and its intention is to give potential coding students a glimpse into the experience they could be having with our tutors.

Every day is a holiday:

Have you ever noticed that every day has its own holiday? Whether it's National Hot Chocolate Day or Talk Like a Pirate Day, there's always something to celebrate. This post acknowledges National Video Games Day which fits into Sylvan's promotion of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) classes. I try to use everyday holidays as a way to break up the constant stream of promotional tweets from our account.

Introduce yourself:

Parents want to know who's teaching their children and what their qualifications are. While they can find that information on the Sylvan website, I made it a little more personal and brought the instructors to them. For Teacher Appreciation Week, I introduced our followers to a new staff member every day, beginning with Jason, our franchise owner. This approach gives our account a local vibe and shows that we are proud of our staff members and students.

Share a fun fact:

Because Sylvan is focused on education, I like include fun facts or interesting bits of knowledge in our posts. Even when the post is just about a holiday like the Fourth of July, I try to include a scientific or educational fact to keep the message on theme.

Provide incentives to gain more followers:

One of the best ways for us to gain followers is by offering them incentives. For our students, that means they receive a certain amount of tokens when they follow us or leave a review. The photo of our "motivation station" is a visual cue for students who need more tokens to receive their prize. It's a simple action on their part that yields a major reward to us.
