For Women's History Month, I challenged myself to express gratitude for 31 different women that I admire; one for each day of the month. Everyday in March, I crafted a social media post dedicated to a different woman or group of women who inspire me. What followed was a month of support, unpleasant objections from anonymous social media users, and an intense feeling of respect and appreciation for all the women I admire.

As a passionate writer with strong beliefs, I love to share my thoughts with others, particularly on social media. It was difficult for me to condense the love and admiration I felt for the women I acknowledged into a short social media post because each and every woman was groundbreaking and revolutionary in her own way. Once they were posted, I was unprepared for the amount of backlash and hateful comments I received from people I had never met, particularly men, who constantly tried to degrade and devalue my challenge. However, I persisted and made it to the end of a wonderful 31-day challenge wherein I developed a stronger respect and gratitude for the women I encounter and admire everyday. Our mothers, grandmothers, favorite actresses, activists, artists, performers, fictional characters, athletes, politicians, filmmakers, educators and more deserve all the recognition we can give. The world is full of intelligent, talented, independent, bold, and wonderful women who deserve recognition every day of the year.

Below is a selection of my favorite posts from the 31-day challenge:
