When record executive Scooter Braun purchased the entirety of Taylor Swift's existing music catalog in June 2019, the Grammy-Award-winning artist did not allow herself to be victimized. Rather, Swift quickly took to social media to express her frustration with Braun as well as her former record label, Big Machine Records, for not allowing her to purchase her own catalog.

"This is my worst case scenario," Swift said in her scathing Tumblr post. "This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept."

Swift's post stirred up drama across several social media platforms, drawing ire from Braun's famed clients such as Demi Lovato and Justin Bieber. However, many, including singer and songwriter, Halsey, voiced their support for Swift and dredged up their own horror stories of working with Braun. Former American Idol contestant and YouTuber, Todrick Hall, who is friends with Swift, defended the singer in a tweet while simultaneously denouncing Braun:

Others, such as journalist Yashar Ali and American Idol star Kelly Clarkson, suggested that Swift re-record the albums that were now under Braun's ownership.

As Ali suggested, if Swift were to re-record and release her masters, it would provide new versions of her music to stream and purchase, meaning Swift would profit from her albums instead of Braun.

Now, almost two months after the suggestion was posed, Swift has announced that she plans to do exactly that.

“Yeah, absolutely,” Swift told CBS when asked if she planned to re-record her catalog in order to "regain control of her master recordings."

With matured and honed vocals, newly-released versions of Swift's already iconic songs are likely to be popular among her loyal super-fans (a.k.a Swifties) as well as those who simply enjoy her music.

Swift is now signed to Universal Music Group which manages talents such as Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, and Rihanna. Her newest album, Lover, was not available for Braun to purchase and remains under her ownership.
